Studio Piece — Original creation by Studio SRD

This sculptural wooden stool was created in the SRD studio in Liège.

Carved from solid wood and finished with tinted oil, the piece evokes geological formations and industrial residues. Its eroded silhouette and softened edges result from a slow manual process rather than strict geometry.

Between seat, pedestal and sculptural block, the object occupies space as an autonomous presence. The surface reveals the grain of the wood beneath layers of pigmentation and oil, allowing light to activate depth and vibration within the material.

Each piece is developed through hands-on experimentation: carving, sanding, staining and repeated oiling until the form reaches its final density and balance.

Designed and produced by the studio’s collective, the SRD stool belongs to an ongoing research into traces, transformation and material memory. It is conceived as a fragment of architecture — functional yet sculptural, domestic yet monumental in character.
